Introducing the Discover Tasmania app

The Discover Tasmania app enhances the on-ground experience of visitors in Tasmania by helping them discover things to do, events and services relevant to their location and interests. 

The app enables users to build an itinerary filled with events, activities, accommodation, places to see and good things to eat and drink. The app also provides real-time updates, informing visitors of available experiences and tips, relevant to their location.

• Compatible with iOS & Android 

• Download from the Apple App Store and Google Play

• Register your business for free on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) to be included on the app

• App launched in April 2023, supported by an interstate marketing campaign.

Key features

When a visitor downloads the Discover Tasmania app, they can:

• Curate a personalised Tasmanian holiday experience
• Enhance their island adventures with recommendations on top spots to eat and drink, outdoor and adventure activities, events, workshops, tours and accommodation nearby
• Use the ‘Planner’ feature to build, save and edit itineraries – integrating with the trip planning functionality on DiscoverTasmania.com.au   
• Receive real-time updates, alerts and tips relevant to where they are
• Keep using most of the app’s features even if they’re offline or out of range for a while; and
• Find useful general services like car parks, toilets, visitor information centres, playgrounds and more.

Benefits for the Tasmanian tourism industry

• Increased exposure for tourism businesses - users can explore businesses, events, and services in order of proximity to their location; finding places they may not have thought to search for themselves. 
• Providing a curated visitor experience – businesses can use the app to share what’s nearby or a curated itinerary of recommended activities with their customers – like a concierge in the pocket.
• Improving the visitor experience – increasing the likelihood of first-time visitation and return visitation.  

How to get involved 

• Display your business, event, or service on the Discover Tasmania app by creating a free ATDW profile. You must have an ATDW profile to be included in the app.
