Latest visitor numbers

The  latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey results show that for the year ending December 2017 a total of 1.26 million visitors travelled to Tasmania, up 2% from the previous year.

Total expenditure increased by 8 per cent and average spend increased by 7 per cent with every visitor on average spending $216 per night.

Importantly, the entire state is sharing the benefits of the visitor economy with growth in numbers across all regions, meaning visitors are traveling further afield and spending outside our major cities.

The north and east coast regions experienced visitor growth higher than the overall rate of growth for the state.

New direct air services from Adelaide and the Gold Coast also had an impact, contributing to 12 per cent growth from the South Australian market and 11 per cent increase from the Queensland market in the year to December 2017.
