LATEST TOURISM PROMOTION PLAN GRANTS ANNOUNCED
Hartzview VineyardSeven tourism projects will share in almost $1 million in funding from the State Government’s Tourism Promotion Plan (TPP).

Announcing the successful applicants at Hartzview Vineyard today, Minister for Economic Development and Tourism, Paula Wriedt, said the seven projects would share $920,000 as part of the TPP’s Regional Product and Experience Development Fund.

Four of the successful projects are based in the State’s south, two in the north, and one in the north-west.

“The purpose of the grants is to provide funding assistance to projects that are market-ready and able to improve visitation both in their own area and across the State,” Ms Wriedt said.

The successful projects for the second and final round of the Regional Product and Experience Development Fund are:

  • The restoration and interpretation of heritage apple-pickers’ huts at Hartzview Vineyard;
  • The establishment of a cooking school at Lachlan;
  • The development of a floating pontoon at Triabunna wharf;
  • The creation of a Tasmanian devil experience at the Tasmanian Devil Conservation park UnZoo;
  • The development of interpretation for a mining heritage trail to complement the Tin Dragon Trail Cottages;
  • The expansion of facilities and an information centre at the Cherry Shed near Latrobe; and
  • The development of a new multi-purpose interpretation centre at Lavender House, Lavender Fields of Tasmania at Rowella.

Since the Tourism Promotion Plan was released by the State Government in November 2006, almost $3.5 million has been allocated for industry projects and cooperative marketing opportunities.

ADDRESSING THE CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGE
Are you interested in learning about how to measure the carbon footprint of your tourism business?

The Commonwealth Government invites you to attend an information breakfast, in Hobart, Launceston or Burnie, to help you build the capacity to monitor your greenhouse emissions improve your business’ bottom line.

Climate change is an issue of enormous global concern and interest. Next month, the Commonwealth Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts will run free information sessions in Tasmania, to provide you with information on their Greenhouse Challenge Plus Program, and its online system for monitoring business energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions.

The breakfast sessions are in collaboration with the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI), the Tasmanian Minerals Council (TMC) and the former Department of Tourism, the Arts and the Environment (DTAE), and provide a great opportunity learn more about this important area.

Information will include: 

  1. Recent changes to the Greenhouse Challenge Plus Program
  2. OSCAR (Online System for Comprehensive Activity Reporting)
  3. Mandatory Reporting
  4. Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)
  5. Fuel Tax Credit changes from the 1 July 2008

The sessions will be held at:

Launceston – Tuesday 4 March, Country Club
Burnie – Wednesday 5 March, Burnie Civic Centre
Hobart – Thursday 6 March, Hobart Function and Conference Centre

Attendees are requested to arrive at 7.00am for a 7.30am start, and should conclude around 9.00am.

One-on-one meetings can be arranged if companies wish to talk to a GCP representative. It is intended to keep these sessions fairly small and informal.
