Tourism and the Australian Economy

Report coverTourism continues to be of vital importance to the Australian economy, accounting for $32.6 billion (3.7% share) of total national GDP in 2004/05.

In comparison, 7% of Tasmania’s gross state product (GSP) is attributed to tourism. The Tasmanian tourism industry is made up of about 2,400 separate businesses supporting almost 9% of total Tasmanian employment.
