Annual Report 2006/2007

Tourism Tasmania's 2006-07 Annual Report coverThe delivery of New Directions for Our Island: Tourism Tasmania Three-Year Business Strategy was a major focus of the 2006-2007 financial year.

New Directions is a organisational response to the challenges and opportunities of the new global travel and tourism environment. Addressing this new world involved realigning the organisation's internal capability; developing a new relationship with the tourism industry; and significantly expanding the creative use of media, in particular through a television advertising campaign.

Tourism Tasmania is a statutory authority operating under the Tourism Tasmania Act 1996. It has a Board of seven local and interstate members with strong expertise in tourism development and marketing.

The Authority plays the principal role in marketing Tasmania as a tourist destination, helps the industry achieve sustainable growth and provides strategic advice to the Minister for Tourism, Arts and the Environment. The Authority is part of the Department of Tourism, Arts and the Environment (DTAE), which brings together key agencies involved in managing and marketing the natural and cultural heritage of Tasmania and fostering the creativity of its people.
