Marketing and development for Tasmania’s tourism industry

The Minister for Tourism and the Arts, Michelle O’Byrne, today welcomed the announcement by Tiger Airways that it would increase flights into Hobart as recognition of the State’s strong tourism performance.
“Hobart is just one of four destinations to get the additional services next year, and means there will be two Tiger Airways flights into Hobart every day.
“These additional flights reflect Tasmania’s continued growth in tourist numbers at a time when other destinations are experiencing downturns as a result of the global financial situation.
“Through commitment to the tourism sector by the State Government and Tourism Tasmania, we have managed to achieve record visitation to our State, with more than one million visitors arriving on our shores in a single year.
“It is extremely pleasing to see this growth result in airlines recognising the commercial potential in Tasmania,” Ms O’Byrne said.
