Marketing and development for Tasmania’s tourism industry

The contribution volunteers make to the Tasmanian tourism industry through Tasmanian Visitor Information Centres was recognised at a special event held in Ulverstone today.
Labor Member for Braddon, Brenton Best, joined the mayor of the Central Coast Council, Mike Downey and other guest speakers in acknowledging around 150 visitor information centre volunteers, the important work they do for the tourism industry of the North West Coast.
“I want to congratulate these volunteers, it is such an important service they provide, binding and connecting our communities together,” Mr Best said.
“Though Tasmania is the smallest State, it has by far the biggest heart, and our volunteering numbers have consistently been above the national average.
“The Visitor centres are staffed seven days a week by volunteers, who play a pivotal role in delivering the kind of services that encourage visitors to stay longer and experience more in each region,” Mr Best said.
“Visitor Information Centre volunteers enrich the visitor experience through the help they provide with bookings and information.
“Our visitor information centres and their volunteers also help to create new ambassadors for our state, so people go home and tell family and friends about the wonderful time they had here in Tasmania, and about that lovely and helpful person at the visitor information centre, who knew so much about the area.
“I speak on behalf of the Tasmanian Government when I thank all visitor information centre volunteers for the time and energy they have given so freely to an important industry for the state, and the region’s economy.”
