Marketing and development for Tasmania’s tourism industry

05 February 2009
Tourism Tasmania’s Jan Ross today officially launched an exciting new vehicle for the marketing of Tasmania, the Zone Holiday Planners.
Ms Ross addressed an audience of tourism and associated business operators, local government representatives and media, and emphasised the spirit of cooperation which drives the Zone Marketing concept.
“The creation of the five zones, and the cooperative way in which the zone group members and Tourism Tasmania have worked together to produce these planners, is indicative of the way forward for the industry in Tasmania,” Ms Ross said.
“We have been working hard to plan the best way to meet the challenges presented by the current global financial crisis for our industry.
“Quick fix solutions won’t do the job; but together we will provide a targeted, long-term strategy, and the Zone Holiday Planners launched today are just one way of achieving this.
“Over 200,000 holiday planners have been produced and will be distributed nationally as our primary motivational document, the centrepiece around which we will sell Tasmania to the domestic market.”
Industry operators, along with Tourism Tasmania, are investing significant dollars into marketing the five Zones.
For this year and each of the next two years, Tourism Tasmania is making available $100,000 per zone, with the amount to be matched by industry, local government and other sources on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to the maximum $100,000.
“Consumers can already download each of the five Zone Holiday Planners via the homepage of Tourism Tasmania’s consumer website, www.discovertasmania.com .
“And for those wanting to speak to a Tassie Specialist about their individual holiday needs, they can call the 1300 TASSIE number and receive specialist advice and request copies of the Zone Holiday Planners in the mail,” Ms Ross said.
Ms Ross also acknowledged the dedication and tireless work of each of the Zone Marketing Group Chairs and thanked the many individuals who have volunteered their time as members of the Zone Marketing Groups.
