Hole in One for Tassie Golf Promotion in US

23 January 2008

Tasmanian golf professional Mathew Goggin has led a team of players around the prestigious Trump National Golf Course in the US for the Australia Week CEO Golf Day.

Goggin, who is in Southern California for the PGA Tour Bob Hope Classic, jumped at the chance to be involved in Australia Week 2008 and to talk up his home state.

The event, rounding up the Los Angeles portion of Australia Week festivities, was hosted by Australian golfer Ian Baker Finch.

The day featured a golf clinic held by the host, a round of 18 holes, and an awards banquet with an authentic Australian barbecue.

Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council, Doug Parkinson, said the CEO Golf  Day was an important opportunity to showcase Tasmania to Southern California’s business elite.

Goggin’s Team Tasmania featured leading US golf writer Chris Rodell and representatives from bottled water company Tasmanian Rain Mark Andrich and Hunter Paige.

“The event was a prime networking and business matching opportunity for participating senior American business people,” Mr Parkinson said.

“Hole number 17 was sponsored by Tasmania’s Barnbougle Dunes, providing an outstanding opportunity to promote the island’s golfing experience, current golf course developments and Tasmania as an ideal location for business tourism to this select group of leading business people.”

Tourism Tasmania representatives promoted the state on the course and presented an opportunity for golfers to win a round at Barnbougle Dunes.

Baker Finch praised Tasmania’s cultural, culinary, historical, wilderness, outdoor adventure and golfing experiences for visitors.

He also referred to Barnbougle Dunes as “probably the best links course in the world,” while addressing the audience during a question and answer session.

“The Golf Day provided the perfect setting to discuss Tasmania’s golfing experience and location for business tourism to high-powered American executives,” Mr Parkinson said.
