Australia's National Long-Term Tourism Strategy provides the long-term policy framework that aims to position the Australian tourism industry as a sustainable and economically vibrant industry. The strategy was unanimously endorsed by the Tourism Ministers' Council and launched on 15 December 2009.
The strategy's main objective is the development of the tourism industry's productive capacity and will help deliver quality tourism product and research that will support policy development, industry development and marketing.
The strategy will assist the Australian Government in achieving its overarching policy goal, which is to maximise the net economic benefit of the tourism industry to the Australian economy.
Tourism Tasmania is actively involved in the NLTTS and participates on a number of working groups tasked to achieve the strategy outcomes. This includes chairing responsibilities for the Destination Management Planning Working Group.
