How to get the gay friendly rainbow logo on your Discover Tasmania website listing

Tourism Tasmania, in consultation with representatives of the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender and Intersex (GLBTI) community, has developed guidelines for businesses wanting to deliver gay friendly services.

As an industry we aspire to meet the following standards in delivering 'gay friendly' visitor experiences:

  • Treating all people in the same professional, non-discriminatory manner
  • Accepting of, and comfortable dealing with, gay and lesbian clients without embarrassment to either party
  • Generally speaking, traditional clientele would be accepting of gay and lesbian guests
  • This is an attempt to ensure that operators can provide a safe and comfortable environment for their gay and lesbian clients. Staff should have the training and skills to manage the dynamics of a mixed group and any conflicting values that may arise
  • Have knowledge of gay and lesbian venues, support and health services in the local area/ Tasmania generally, or reference to where this information can be obtained. Current information is available in the 'Listings' section of the Discover Tasmania Gay & Lesbian Visitor's Guide
  • All staff understands management's philosophy and conduct business in the same 'gay friendly' manner
  • Ideally have some gay and lesbian tourism literature available on the premises, such as the Discover Tasmania Gay & Lesbian Visitor's Guide.

If you would like to cater to this market and display the gay-friendly Tasmania rainbow 'mapicon' on your free discovertasmania.com listing, you should adopt the above criteria as a gay friendly business.
