About Us

Tourism Tasmania is a Tasmanian Government organisation whose role is to lead the industry in jointly delivering marketing and development programs that drive benefits for Tasmania from domestic and international tourism.

Tourism Tasmania was established as a statutory authority in 1997. It operates under the Tourism Tasmania Act 1996, and is governed by an eight-member Board appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Minister.

Part of the wider Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts, it links government and the private sector in marketing Tasmania's unique assets.

Tourism Tasmania’s new strategic direction has been shaped by our recognition of the changed world for tourism in Tasmania and the need for us, as an organisation, to continue to change ourselves to meet the challenges of this new world.

Our Objectives

Our objectives are to:

  • Create new knowledge and understanding for industry and stakeholders about tourism through research, analysis and insights
  • Address the barriers to conversion and travel to Tasmania by identifying and taking effective, consistent action with those who can make a difference
  • Establish, articulate and maintain the brand and brand values, particularly through creative and innovative marketing
  • Achieve alignment of Tasmania’s tourism product, experiences and infrastructure to match market expectations of the brand.

Our Values

Our values and accompanying supporting behaviours are an integral part of our processes that include recruitment, induction, competencies, development and career progression. Our values underpin the work we do to achieve our Corporate Plan.

Tourism Tasmania values:

  • people first
  • creativity
  • commitment
  • excellence
